Program note

This two-piano piece Sisters was written in autumn 2010, when the composer's mother was seriously ill. The incident has incited an immense sorrowful feeling, coupled with feeling homesick; the work is therefore dedicated to her.

The music material stems from a well-known story entitled Little Sisters of the Grassland from Mongolia, its moral often regurgitated by the composer's by the composer's mother to her two daughters. The piece is conceived according to traditional three-part structure, with outer sections featuring the conspicuous characteristics of Mongolian dances, while the middle section expressing the nostalgic feeling of living by the Yangtze River, where the composer grew up. While composing, there was continuous flow of musical ideas, and these were accompanied with a unique association to the sentiments of the Yangtze River and the composer's family.
