Program note
Bleu, for unaccompanied violin was composed for Gregory Walker after his
success in performing the premiere of the Violin Concerto of George Walker with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Neeme Järvi in 2009. The work is comprised of a single movement that is characterized by the alternation of short lyrical phrases with rapid, difficult figurations. A quote in double stops of a popular jazz tune is incorporated in the concluding measures of Bleu.
