"The piano piece 'Short Story' (also: Prelude) was written in the year 2000 and has now been adapted for a brass quintet and saxophone quartet. A sequence of two chords (bars 1 and 2) forms the starting point for which further thematic/harmonic work which makes use of chord material from the late Romantic period and also shows a closeness to jazz. It is important for the interpretation that the tension of the 'long' chord is maintained; it's best to imagine a wind instrument..."
