Siegrid Ernst studied music Heidelberg, Frankfurt, and Vienna under such teachers as Else Rehberg and Gerhard Frommel. Her main subjects were piano and composition. Her works include chamber music, Lieder cycles, cantatas, orchestral works, music for children, and improvisation and performance concepts and are performed internationally. In 1981, Siegrid Ernst awarded a scholarship from the German government for the "Cité Internationale des Arts" in Paris. In 1989, she was made honorary professor of the Interamerican University of Humanistic Studies in Florida. In addition to giving a variety of concerts as a pianist, the composer also taught Piano, Composition, and Improvisation at a number of universities of music. Her extensive committee work focused especially on female composers. She was a member of Gedok for many years, and as a founding member of the Internationaler Arbeitskreis Frau und Musik, she was its chairperson for many years. She was also a founding member of the International Congress on Women in Music.
