"Fire Shut Up in My Bones" was commissioned by Opera Theatre of St. Louis as a part of its New Works, Bold Voices series. Based on the best-selling 2014 memoir of The New York Times journalist Charles M. Blow, with the libretto written by Kasi Lemmons, "Fire Shut Up in My Bones" explores Blow’s struggles to transcend and overcome a cycle of violence.
