Lucy Shirley is a composer whose works are polystylistic and playful, often focusing on language and aspects of the human voice. Shirley is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Iowa where she studies with David Gompper. Her honors include winning the IAWM 2024 Annual Concert Call for Scores, selection in SOLI Chamber Ensemble’s 2024 30x30x30 Project, and a 2022 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award and selection as a Finalist in 2021. She has attended festivals such as highSCORE, the Norfolk New Music Workshop, and June in Buffalo. She obtained her BM from the University of Indianapolis, where she studied with John Berners, and her MM from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she studied with Chen Yi, Yotam Haber, and Zhou Long.
